Solano County District Attorney David W. Paulson: Why you need to know what your child does on the Internet | The Child Abuse Prevention CouncilThe Child Abuse Prevention Council informs, trains and advises the community about keeping children safe from harm. Council members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Goals: Provide a forum for interagency cooperation and coordination in the prevention, detection, treatment and legal processing of child abuse cases. Promote public awareness of the abuse and neglect of children and the resources available for intervention and treatment. Encourage and facilitate training of professionals in the detection, treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect. Recommend improvements in services available to families and victims. Encourage and facilitate community support for child abuse and neglect programs.
Structure: The Child Abuse Prevention Council meets quarterly, usually on the 3rd Monday of the month, in January, April, July and October. Much of its work is done by standing committees and task forces, with the support of a Child Abuse Prevention Coordinator who is staff to the Council. Standing committees are: the Executive Committee, the Training and Diversity Committee, the Public Awareness Committee, the Interagency Coordination Committee and the Children of Incarcerated Parents Committee. Task forces address specific issues, such as outreach to clergy and communities of faith, multicultural concerns, and oversight of systems improvements. Membership in the Council is limited to those people appointed by the Board of Supervisors, but participation in committee or task force activities and attendance at Council meetings and functions is open to anyone per the Brown Act. Our Vision: All children of Solano County will reach adulthood having experienced a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment. The resulting sense of self-worth, coupled with equal access to resources, will empower them to develop their unique potential, so they mature realizing a strong sense of responsibility to self, culture, and society. |
