Tax Preparation Assistance

Get your taxes, including e-file, done free! From February 2, 2009 to April 15, 2009, you can qualify for FREE tax preparation services if your annual income was less than $42,000 in 2008, depending on the size of your family.

Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)

You may be eligible to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), a tax benefit for people who work.* If you qualify, the EITC will reduce your taxes. Last year, the average total refund was over $1,200! Even if you don't owe income tax, you can get the EITC.

* Undocumented workers are not eligible for EITC, but may be eligible for FREE tax preparation and other tax credits.

You may qualify for the EITC if:

  • You were raising two or more children in 2008 and earned less than $36,348 ($38,348 if married)

  • You were raising one child in 2008 and earned less than $32,001 ($34,001 if married)

  • You had no children in your home in 2008, earned less than $12,120 ($14,120 if married) and were between the ages of 25 and 64 years old

You may qualify for as much as:

  • $412 w/ no qualifying children

  • $2,747 w/ 1 qualifying child

  • $4,536 w/ 2 or more qualifying children

Child Tax Credit

If you have children, you may also qualify for the Federal Child Tax Credit, which provides up to $1,000 for each dependent child under age 17.
